CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Colorado Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) is now accepting nominations for four positions on the Board of Directors, with terms beginning on September 1, 2017: President-Elect, Secretary, and two Director(s)-at-Large. SMPS Colorado is committed to a broad outreach process to ensure that all interested individuals have an opportunity to be considered for Board positions. The Board of Directors is responsible for leading the Chapter toward the desired performance and ensuring goals and plans are met for our members.

The SMPS Mission is to advocate for, educate, and connect leaders in the building industry. Our vision is for premier professional services firms to recognize SMPS as their most trusted resource for building business and achieving success.

The deadline for submitting nominations is April 24, 2017. The names and qualifications of all interested individuals will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee, who will then call for a member vote on candidates no later than June 1, 2017

As you prepare your nomination, please review the following requirements and responsibilities for the Chapter’s officers:

President-Elect

The President-Elect will serve as President in his/her absence, and will preside at meetings of the Chapter, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee. When acting as President, the President-Elect will have all the powers of, and be subject to, all the restrictions upon the President. The President-Elect will perform such other duties as may be assigned by the President or Board of Directors. These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Standing in as President when needed
  • Assisting all Board members as needed               
  • Recruiting new Board and Committee members as head of the Nominations Committee
  • Attending President’s Leadership Symposium (PLS), and preparing for Presidency
  • Serving as liaison to SMPS Headquarters (HQ)
  • Acting as Board liaison to assigned committee(s) to ensure the Board has a clear understanding of the activities of Committee and the Committee has a clear understanding of the Board’s goals and plans
  • Ensuring the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan align with HQ
  • Monitoring the performance of the Chapter relative to achievement of the strategic plan
  • Setting, maintaining, and constantly improving all ongoing Chapter and Board policies
  • Participating in fundraising and development activities to ensure the well-being and financial sustainability of the organization
  • Evaluating and improving Board’s performance as the member’s governing body, setting expectations for Board members’ involvement as volunteers, and maintaining ethical integrity and accountability for the Chapter

The President-Elect will be elected at large, will serve in that office for one (1) year, and will assume the Office of President in the subsequent year. At the end of his/her term as President, the individual will automatically remain on the Board of Directors for a one-year term as Immediate Past-President.

To be eligible for election as President-Elect, the individual must have served on the Board of Directors for one year or served as a committee chair for one year. This individual must be a Regular member and must have been a member for two years as of the date of the meeting at which the results of the election are to be announced or as approved by the Board of Directors. The elected candidate will be responsible for the well-being of the Colorado Chapter, which requires dedicated time and energy to furthering the Mission of the organization.

Secretary

The Secretary will serve as the custodian for keeping and maintaining records of all meetings of the board and membership. The Secretary will ensure these records are maintained in the permanent record of the Chapter, and in general, perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the President or the Board of Directors. The Secretary shall be responsible for required corporate reporting to the Colorado Secretary of State. This position also acts as a Board liaison to assigned committee(s) to ensure the Board has a clear understanding of the activities of the Committee and the Committee has a clear understanding of the Board’s goals and plans.

The Secretary will be elected at large for a two-year term. Term limit is two consecutive two-year terms.

To be eligible for election as Secretary, the individual must have served on a chapter committee for one year or as approved by the Board of Directors. This individual must be a Regular member and must have been a member for two years as of the date of the meeting at which the results of the election are to be announced or as approved by the Board of Directors. The elected candidate will be responsible for the well-being of the Colorado Chapter, which requires dedicated time and energy to furthering the mission of the organization.

Director(s)-at-Large

Director(s)-at-Large will serve as a champion for specific Chapter activities as identified throughout the year. The Director-at-Large provides advice and input to the Board to assist with strategic planning, policy and action decisions.  This position also provides leadership development, training for Board members in addition to serving on the Nominations and Elections Committee, and Finance Committee. Acts as Board liaison to assigned Committee(s) to ensure the Board has a clear understanding of the activities of the Committee and the Committee has a clear understanding of the Board’s goals and plans.

Two individuals will be elected as a Director-at-Large for one-year terms. Term is limited to two consecutive one-year terms.

To be eligible for election as Director-at-Large, the individual must have served on a chapter committee for one year, or as approved by the Board of Directors. This individual must be a Regular member and must have been a member for two years as of the date of the meeting at which the results of the election are to be announced or as approved by the Board of Directors. The elected candidate will be responsible for the well-being of the Colorado Chapter, which requires dedicated time and energy to furthering the mission of the organization.
